Our Client based in the Reading area are looking for Lab Technician/ Storeman
Main Functional Role & Responsibilities
The company is comprised of several small teams engaged in RF & digital LSI development, software development and hardware reference platform development. The successful candidate will work closely with all of the hardware development teams. The main activities in this job/role are:
1. Populating in-house PCB’s to a very high and reliable standard, within aggressive timescales. All ranges of component sizes down to 0201 chip devices are used. Ensuring all ESD precautions are adhered to.
2. Undertaking any modifications or reworks required to any circuits within the lab environment to a high and precise standard and informing the engineer when completed (modification records must be kept up to date also).
3. Construction of test and inter-pcb connecting cables to a design engineer’s requirements. Power supply, ribbon and coaxial (flexible and semi-rigid) types are required.
4. Working from a PCB parts list and/or designer’s circuit drawings
5. Taking charge of the component stores held within the lab and their associated location database (MS Access). This includes the procurement of components on a day-to-day basis and ensuring regularly used items are always available in stock (consumables). All product samples obtained by engineers and technicians must also be added to the database and placed into the stores.
6. Working with computers and the internet to search for and procure specific components and other project related items. Computer work will include the use of Excel when generating BOM spreadsheets.
7. Liaison with design engineers to ensure that correct alternative parts can be ordered if the original suggested or simulated component is unavailable.
(Lead times also generate the need for seeking alternative suppliers to avoid unnecessary project delays).
8. Procurement and kitting for the population of PCB’s by an external contractor, including delivery and collection. The kits shall contain all information regarding the build: parts lists, PCB component positioning schematics and any component orientation details. Goods inspection and cataloguing will be required for all delivered items.
9. Responsibility for the PCB assembly station and the tools used, including the solder fume extraction filter that must be changed on a six monthly basis.
10. To quickly evaluate each task and highlight any show-stopping problems to the relevant engineer or manager and assist with it’s solution.
The candidate should be confident, polite and show a professional manner when dealing with suppliers, potential customers and other members of staff.
The candidate should have at least 5 years experience in assembly at PCB level and with component sizes described earlier.
