Design and document optical solutions incorporating reflectors, lenses and light emitting diodes, including but not limited to: Solar powered, hardwired, surface mount reflective and LED road stud technology. Write specifications to meet client requirements; seek approvals and ensure clearly defined solutions are identified. Stay abreast of legislative regulations and incorporate in designs as appropriate. Write test specification documents to ensure robust verification and validation of designs. To perform appropriate failure mode and risk analysis.Liaise with Product Engineer/Suppliers to produce prototypes and define unit testing to ensure prototype operation is achieved. Document BOM and component specifications to facilitate handover to production. Respond to Engineering change requests as appropriate.Report weekly on progress and issues for each development. Ensure all work is completed to quality requirements; is of high quality and delivers robust and maintainable solutions. Ensure all work is documented to quality equirements; maintaining design documentation records. To promote a culture of achieving all tasks `right first time`. Provide technical input and work estimates for sales enquiries ensuring rapid response and turnaround. Liaise with clients on technical project issues as required. Provide commissioning/installation support (on-site) as required. Discover new technical developments and generate proposals and enhancements
Essential Skills & Experience (Candidates must have ALL these skills)
5 years relevant experience of technology product development in harsh environments; with specific experience of LED/optical applications including lens design for camera and emitted light transmission.
Experience of fibre optic design would be desirable.
Component design; including reflector, lens and LED application design. Optical engineering Test and validation of optical product design, ability to use spectrometers. Report writing. Work within the visual and IR range of the spectrum.
Qualifications
Degree in optical or related subject; experience in lieu qualifications considered
Competencies
New product development for use in harsh environments. Solar power application.
BOM management Structured ISO9001 development processes; including TCF management. Good collaboration skills working as part of a wider project team. Must be confident, articulate, able to deal with all levels in the organisation and to converse with customers. |
