This Design Company is currently looking to recruit up to three experienced mechanical engineers: ideally with 2-5 years relevant experience.
Mechanical Engineering degree: From a well-established university with a strong engineering reputation, such as Bristol, Bath, Loughborough, Imperial, UMIST, Cambridge. 1st or Upper 2nd degree preferred.
Good, wide-ranging technical background: University course should cover a range of engineering disciplines – structures, mechanics, dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics, etc. Engineers need to be very flexible. One month you may be designing a refrigeration system; the next you may be designing the mechanism for a drug delivery system. To do this you need to be able to dig back into your engineering training regularly.
Experience: Candidates should have worked in a product design environment, playing an active role in the development team. They should have been involved in taking at least one product through the complete design process. Ideally, they should have managed a significant part of the project. Experience of a range of market sectors, product types and manufacturing processes would also be useful.
Able to learn new skills and market areas: Almost every job they undertake is "new" to them. Usually the client knows far more about their area of business than they do. So they need to learn fast, match their level of knowledge then add their own expertise to deliver products to meet their wishes.
Team member: Most projects are run using small teams. An engineer must be able to work with direct team members and also with staff outside the immediate team. With little hierarchy, things are only achieved by motivating the team and getting co-operation. |
