OVERVIEW
A Hardware Design Engineer, with 2 years post-graduate experience, is sought for this challenging, wide-ranging and varied role.
The job will involve participating in all phases of product development from specification, design and test through to sign off and support to production. These products include modules, evaluation kits and product development platforms, primarily related to the Company`s single chip wireless microcontrollers. The successful candidate will have a strong background in digital and analogue hardware design, complemented with knowledge of software, and the ability to work in structured and orderly manner.
The Company is enabling the emerging market for wireless sensor networks. Their wireless microcontrollers provide a highly integrated solution to developing low-cost sensor networks based on IEEE802.15.4 and ZigBee standards.
SCOPE
- The successful candidates main responsibilities will be to provide hardware design expertise to the product development teams
- Additional responsibilities may include
- Management and co-ordination of the handover of products from development to manufacturing
- Design, commission and support of manufacturing test solutions
- Providing on going support of manufacturing on production issues
- Management of 3rd party sub-contractors undertaking
- Prototype manufacture and test
- Standards compliance testing
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Hardware design, debug and test experience
- Design and debug of board level products incorporating single chip microcontrollers
- Product design for small to medium volume manufacturing
- Schematic capture and PCB layout tools
- Laboratory tests and debugging equipment:
- Logic analysers, oscilloscopes, vector signal analysers, arbitrary waveform generators, spectrum analysers etc
- C programming in an embedded environment
- Software driver development for peripheral chips (e.g. SPI, serial bus interfaces)
- Compliance testing (FCC, ETSI, etc)
- Design for manufacturing methodologies
- Design of low power (battery) systems
- Radio systems, such as 802.15.4, GSM, Bluetooth, Wireless LAN using single chip radios
- RF component specification or selection
- Surface mount prototype PCB assembly and rework.
