Job Title: Project Engineer (Electrical)
Location: Manchester
Reporting to: Directly to the Head of Department, Project Management
Electrically biased:
Utilisation of Auto Cad, produce Block Cable Diagrams, interconnecting cable diagrams from site equipment to the Company`s equipment (the Company`s equipment is manufactured in Germany, and includes all control panels). Â The interconnecting requirement is between external instruments etc.
Preparing technical specifications to allow sub contractors prices to be obtained for the installation of the electrical equipment (incl off loading panels etc).
Liaising with Company software Engineer to ensure all PLC IO requirements are achieved allowed for within the PLC.
Carrying out RA/MS for site works (and or verifying sub contractors RA/MS are suitable etc).
Meeting with client to discuss contract programmes, variations to contract, substantiation of additional costs and the subsequent pursuing to agree additional costs.
Carrying out cable calcs (Amtech) to provide client with evidence of suitable cable size and protective devices incorporated.
Demonstration to client of adequate earthing of equipment on site, i.e. equipotential bonding of extraneous metal work etc.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Be responsible for/provide detailed engineering and back-up support to the HoD.
- Under the guidance of the HoD, undertake the role of Project Manager on specific projects.
- Be responsible for all engineering activities associated with electrical scope for Company projects in consultation with colleagues, suppliers and customers, in line with best practice and with reference to the contract specifications.
- Oversee the preparation of electrical and PLC engineering specifications and ensure that the correct interface is in place appropriate to each contract.
- Prepare technical content for purchase orders or sub-contracts for electrical scope having ensured the most cost effective solution and best value for money.
- Review specifications and drawings to ensure that the electrical scope is implemented in line with best practice and with the contract specification.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and contractual requirements for all specified & procured equipment, with particular regard to Health and Safety legislation.
- Investigate and implement where possible, enhancements in standard designs for client & internal projects alongside other staff members.
- Be prepared to travel and work away from Manchester for short durations.
- Ensuring that the Company, Client and Statutory Health and Safety Policy/Legislation is complied with.
- Ensuring that the Company Code of Corporate Conduct is complied with at all times.
- Ensuring that any quality/engineering procedures are followed at all times.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM JOB
- Communication skills for interfacing with colleagues, reporting to project management, liasing with customers and writing specifications.
- Knowledge of electrical and general specifications associated within the water industry in the UK.
- Organisational skills for handling of workload for electrical scope and for performing tasks in a timely and correctly prioritised manner.
- Carry out other tasks as may be defined by the HoD that may be required in order to develop the business.
- Be familiar with and able to implement or recognise all IT software skills necessary to undertake the project management and engineering functions.
- Knowledge of MCC requirements associated with "Form & Type", and BSEN 60439 -1 "type tested units.
- Production of cable schedules, and BCDs.
- Use of Amtech (or similar software package) to produce cable rating and subsequent cable selection criteria.
- Demonstrate knowledge of protection criteria/devices for differing devices/drives.
