Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer Location: Didcot, Oxfordshire Permanent Position Duties Г To provide electrical engineering design support to the technical systems of the client. Г Work closely with internal & external scientific and engineering staff to produce electrical designs for projects including, motion control for optical systems, vacuum control systems for vessels & beam tubes, safety interlock systems for personnel protection and electrical installations for buildings and experimental areas including power distribution, lighting, telecoms, HVAC, etc. Г Develop and apply expertise in technologies such as : Programmable logic controllers, Sensors, actuators and encoders. Г Use of Computer Aided Design software package AutoCAD. Г Procurement of equipment through commercial suppliers. Г Supervision of internal and contract design staff and control of quality. Г Contribute to hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises. Г Maintain and update engineering drawings and documentation on projects. Г Work within DLS procedures and contribute to their development. Qualifications and Experience: Essential The successful candidate is likely to have the following skills and experience. Г HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Г Ability to provide ideas and creative solutions to design problems. Г Good working knowledge of a CAD system with at least 5 years fulltime experience. Г Self motivated and with ability and initiative to get to the heart of a problem and see it through to completion. Г Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills. Г Good background in electrical engineering. Г Excellent working knowledge of engineering drawings and working to specifications for controls and electrical designs. Г Experience of working in a team, discussing work with other team members and presenting ideas and solutions to engineers or customers. Г Background in the use of computers and data handling including Microsoft office systems, Word, Excel, Power Point, Project and MathCad. Г Good working knowledge of AutoCAD. Г Must be available to travel on work related business with occasional overnight stays. Г Light manual tasks may be involved during commissioning. Qualifications and Experience: Desirable Г Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Г Technical Apprenticeship. Г Engineering Council registration and membership of relevant professional body. Г Ability to lead, motivate and manage internal and contract staff. Г Some appreciation of electrical calculations packages. Г Experience of supervising design office work. Г Experience of working within a QA system. Г Good appreciation of project management. Г Experience of overseeing manufacture, assembly, testing and commissioning of systems. Г Competence in two or more of Motion control, safety interlock systems, electrical installations for buildings and experimental equipment, including, power distribution, lighting, telecoms, HVAC, etc. PLC`s, sensors, actuators, encoders and vacuum technology. Г Holds a Driving Licence.
