The Company based in Liverpool, is a small hi-tech design and manufacture business specialising in the manufacture of Magnetron Sputter Sources for use in the Vacuum coating industry and are a recognized world leader in this field. The Company supply both machine builders and end-user. 95% of their output is export to the USA, EU, Japan, Taiwan, Korea & China. The company is ISO 9001 and IiP accredited. JOB DESCRIPTION: Summary of the Role: Working within a team of 5, this role is for a dedicated hands-on Design Engineer with a high level of attention to detail. The position reports to the Design Manager and involves the customisation of products to meet customer specifications and some new product development work. Modification of standard design templates as well as the generation of bespoke parts lists for particular designs will be part of your remit. You will liaise with customers, and internally with individuals from all disciplines across the business providing technical support and briefing at all stages of the manufacturing process right through to shipment of the final product. You will be a highly talented and methodical Mechanical Engineer with a good technical background, have detailed draughting experience and exceptional 3D CAD modelling skills. Innovation and flair will be natural to you as will the ability to deal with complex technical issues. Ideally educated to degree level or at least of graduate calibre and with a track record of innovative design success, you will be a forward thinking engineer with a flexible and quality focussed attitude. Main Responsibilities Ø Mechanical design of high technology products Ø Customisation of standard products to suit customer needs Ø Liaise with customers regarding specific requirements for orders Ø Ensure traceability for design projects Ø Finalise the product model - complete design using CAD Ø Generate parts list for materials ordering and pass on to purchasing dept Ø Field technical enquiries regarding product assembly Ø Provide product brief to workshop and formally handover project Ø Provide technical support during production - if necessary provide redesign effort Ø Ensure product is feasible in line with current supplier lead times and that these are adhered to Ø Original CAD design work Ø Standardisation of product designs - working with Design Manager to deliver products based around parameterised designs Ø Innovative and lateral thinking as an aid to problem solving Ø Sharing of knowledge and experience with the rest of the team at design, NPD meetings and in day to day work. Main Challenges Ø Understanding the technology upon which the company`s products are based and it`s scope Ø Understand the new product development process and the science behind it. Ø Ensure that design criteria are standardised into baseline products enabling fast reaction to incoming production orders
